"A favour from one Florence fan to another!
Hey, First off, great blog! Secondly, I've set up a campaign to try and get Florence's You've Got The Love to be this year's New Year number 1 (Sunday 3rd January) and was wondering whether you could possibly post something about it on your blog as a bit of promotion. I've set up a group on Facebook (a la Rage Against The Machine) and it's starting to take off. I know the whole idea is a long shot but even if we got her into the top 10 i think it would be a success. So yeah, I'd really love it if you could do that for me and hopefully play a part in getting Flo to number 1. This is a link to the group: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=246508179427&ref=mf Cheers, Shaun"

Florence LP cover 'designed by Maccabees'
Florence Welch has revealed that the cover of her debut album Lungs was designed by Orlando Weekes from The Maccabees.
The singer, who records under the name Florence & The Machine, described the unusual outfit as "a lung bra-cum-necklace".
"He's a fellow art student and does a lot of craft stuff. So he had the job of sewing these lungs," she told the Daily Star.
"All the other boys had to leave the room when I put them on, but he got to stick some lungs to my boobs."
Last month, Lungs was included on the Mercury music prize shortlist. The winner will be announced on September 8.

Oh my god Its Florence Welch not Florence Welsh!
Doesn't it really annoy that they spell Flo's surname wrong, even if they've worked with her eg Ashok. Join the band on facebook here.
New Florence LP inspired by time travel?
Florence Welch has revealed that her next album could be inspired by "time travel" and "minimalism".
The Florence and the Machine singer released her debut album Lungs in June - and has since seen it go platinum - but plans to begin recording the follow-up as soon as January.
"I started thinking about it last night actually when I was trying to go to sleep. I was like, 'My God, I've got to do another one!'" she told DS.
"I've been writing bits and bobs here and there, and talking to producers and stuff, but the sudden realisation hit me last night. I've got a notebook that's full of scraps but I kind of need to sew it all together to make it an album."
However, Welch admitted that she has got as far as devising potential themes for the record.
"I think that's one of the easiest things. If you think about which way you want to go, the rest of it sort of follows suit," she said. "'Minimalism' and 'time travel' are two phrases that are getting bandied about."

Far, far, far unfit to bear the bitter cold.
Let me, let me, let me freeze again to death.
It seems the darkness is encroaching, as the winter knuckles down with freezing fists, and although the day carries on, the night falls around us.. ..ie : its fucking cold and I cant get out of bed in the mornings, but anyway, HOWDY! HOW Y’ALL DOING! It's good to be back on land again, ..bonjour to anyone who saw me on my French sojourn, it was fantastique!, I had a magical day in Paris, tripping around the graves of motparsse, a village for the dead, broken stained glass and lilacs, walked along the seine, it seems to me the light is different in Paris, kind of rosy gold, when you come through the eurostar you realise how grey purple the light is here, but the greens are brighter.
I got lost in Montmartre, always lost.. but found a charity shop warehouse and the Moulin rouge... the gig at the cigalle was one of my favourite ever, I had been reading edith piafs biography, that I bought from Shakespeare and co, so I was hoping to channel her in some way…
it was a pleasure to be back at the union chapel for the little noise sessions, I think the chapel is my favourite venue in london, and performing with strings was a great way to end a hungover Sunday, I felt pretty unholy as I walked into the church but somehow absolved as I left…
what else what else what else, oh yeah, collaboration extravaganza at the tabernacle for the NME, it was radical, patrick wolf, jack penate, kid harpoon, steve mackey, and jarvis cocker all agreed to play, and DREAM COME TRUE, i got to sing underwear with jarvis on stage..woah, teenage fantasy realised..can die happy now..... did not manage to play it cool though, grinning like an idiot the whole way through..x
setting off on our last uk tour of the year tommorow, hope to see you there, im of to rehearse with the string section and the gospel choir for the brixton academy show...eeep, very exciting,
best wishes, lots of love florence...x

F+TM Hit Stateside
FLORENCE And The Machine is planning to incorporate an American sound into her second album.
The BRIT Award winner, 23, is jetting off to LA next year.
There she will start work on her eagerly anticipated follow-up to her debut, Lungs.
She told me yesterday at T4’s Stars of 2009: “I’m looking to go LA to work with some American producers.
"Lungs had a very London sound to it as it’s where I grew up. I think it would be good to travel a bit and put some otherworldly sounds in it too.”

My Inspiration CD Artwork
Some people can sing like no one else. Some are poets, who can tell the most incredible stories. 'My Inspiration' is about the artists we love, sharing with us the lyrics and songs that have inspired them. The journey began over three years ago, when David Bowie became the first artist to take part, selecting Syd Barrett's 'Gigolo Aunt' as his inspiration. Since that time many of our greatest icons and best new artists have also featured.
HMV has now taken this idea a step further by inviting some of our most exciting new talent such as Florence and the Machine, VV Brown and Gary Go as well as more established stars including Girls Aloud and Stereophonics to record for us their own personal version of a song that has inspired them.
The result is the my inspiration album - a fantastic collection of covers of inspirational songs, many of which are exclusive to HMV and are only being heard for the first time.
Tracklisting:
1. Man In The Mirror [Michael Jackson]-James Morrison
2. Beggin' [Frankie Valli And The Four Seasons]-Saturdays
3. For Once In My Life [Stevie Wonder]-Sugababes
4. Black And Gold [Sam Sparro]-Gary Go
5. Rehab [Amy Winehouse]-Frankmusik
6. Padlock [Gwen Guthrie]-VV Brown
7. Dancing In The Dark [Bruce Springsteen]-Amy Macdonald
8. The Eton Rifles [The Jam]-Stereophonics
9. I Drove All Night [Roy Orbison]-Maccabees
10. Ill WInd [Ella Fitzgerald]-Noisettes
11. Broken Strings [James Morrison & Nelly Furtado]-Girls Aloud
12. You Got The Love [The Source & Candi Staton]-Florence & The Machine

In Studio Podcast: Florence and the Machine
Florence and the Machine have had a very good year.
The band, which sprouted off the bedroom recordings of British singer Florence Welsh, won an award – The Brits Critics' Choice Selection – for their debut album, Lungs, before it was even released. When it was released, in July of 2009, sales of Lungs were brisk in Britain, second on the charts only to Michael Jackson in the wake of his death. And the acclaim continued, landing Welsh and her bandmates on the shortlist for Britain's top critical music award, the Mercury Music Prize.
On a recent tour stop in Toronto, Florence Welsh stopped by the Post for a chat with Brad Frenette and to perform a pair of songs: Rabbit Heart and Kiss With A Fist.

F+TM To Perform at T4's Stars of 2009
You've been bugging us for weeks to reveal more acts for T4's Stars of 2009 and at last we announce the following.... Florence and the Machine, Paloma Faith, Ke$ha and Example. Boom!
Florence Welch may kiss with her fist but luckily she sings with her voice...and what a voice it is. The debut album ‘Lungs’ has only been out a matter of months, and has already become one of the nation’s most loved LP’s of the year, both commercially and critically. When Florence and the Machine take to the stage at T4’s Stars of 2009, you’ll find all your attention is on one thing only, and it won’t be your watch.

Europe, America, Canada and beyond!......well, back to Europe
Flames, planes, and automobiles, what a ride it’s been, we went tooooo..
Deep breath………….an all night restaurant called magicals in Brussels which we turned into our own private 70’s disco for Bobby’s birthday, YMCA’ing all the way to Amsterdam, where I bought enough ruffled sleeved blouses to make me look like Adam Ant for a good few months, also went to the Van Gogh museum, ….nearly burned to death in our bunks in Copehagen, nearly drank ourselves to death in Berlin in an abandoned train carriage bar called, surprisingly “train”….. saw the XX and Holly Miranda, both amazing, sold merch at the XX show, dream come true, saw the Duomo in Milan, where the sun shone through the stained glass and the enormity and grandeur of it almost totally overwhelmed me, then went to an after party in Milan dressed as a bat, it was in an huge vaulted art gallery and ended up loosing myself dancing on a table in a smoke and lazers extravaganza.
Finally found myself in time to fly to New York, did the Alexa Chung show, which was great, but I was so terrified of doing live TV, and in fucking Times Square, with Edward Norton, my hands wouldn’t stop shaking, at least It prepared me for Letterman. LETTERMAN. Jesus, that was surreal, it was like stepping into the television or something, hyper unreality, then did CNN, where the woman told me off on live television for not looking into the camera, and then said I seemed kind of overwhelmed by everything, OF COURSE IM OVERWHELMED IM LIVE ON CNN!, oh and I punched a ghost that I found sitting on the end of my bed in my hotel room,
The show at the bowery was great, thank you to everyone who came, We left the cobbled streets of rainy New York, and headed for the shores of sunny LA. Did an acoustic gig in an abandoned zoo, ended up in the bear pit.. Met Rod Stuart in the hallway of the Jimmy Kimmel show, and bought some amazing silk dresses on Melrose.. the whole town was going Halloween crazy, but I basically look like I’m in fancy dress all the time anyway so I fit right in..x the show at The Troubadour, SO FUN!!, I then ended up in a tree poolside at the Mondrian discussing politics with someone dressed as, “boom boom shake shake the room”.
Me and Izza went as Calvin and Hobbes, because I’m tall and orange and she’s small and blonde…x
