YGTL First No.1 of 2010?

"A favour from one Florence fan to another!

Hey, First off, great blog! Secondly, I've set up a campaign to try and get Florence's You've Got The Love to be this year's New Year number 1 (Sunday 3rd January) and was wondering whether you could possibly post something about it on your blog as a bit of promotion. I've set up a group on Facebook (a la Rage Against The Machine) and it's starting to take off. I know the whole idea is a long shot but even if we got her into the top 10 i think it would be a success. So yeah, I'd really love it if you could do that for me and hopefully play a part in getting Flo to number 1. This is a link to the group: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=246508179427&ref=mf Cheers, Shaun"

Florence LP cover 'designed by Maccabees'

Florence Welch has revealed that the cover of her debut album Lungs was designed by Orlando Weekes from The Maccabees.

The singer, who records under the name Florence & The Machine, described the unusual outfit as "a lung bra-cum-necklace".

"He's a fellow art student and does a lot of craft stuff. So he had the job of sewing these lungs," she told the Daily Star.

"All the other boys had to leave the room when I put them on, but he got to stick some lungs to my boobs."

Last month, Lungs was included on the Mercury music prize shortlist. The winner will be announced on September 8.

Oh my god Its Florence Welch not Florence Welsh!

Doesn't it really annoy that they spell Flo's surname wrong, even if they've worked with her eg Ashok. Join the band on facebook here.

New Florence LP inspired by time travel?

Florence Welch has revealed that her next album could be inspired by "time travel" and "minimalism".

The Florence and the Machine singer released her debut album Lungs in June - and has since seen it go platinum - but plans to begin recording the follow-up as soon as January.

"I started thinking about it last night actually when I was trying to go to sleep. I was like, 'My God, I've got to do another one!'" she told DS.

"I've been writing bits and bobs here and there, and talking to producers and stuff, but the sudden realisation hit me last night. I've got a notebook that's full of scraps but I kind of need to sew it all together to make it an album."

However, Welch admitted that she has got as far as devising potential themes for the record.

"I think that's one of the easiest things. If you think about which way you want to go, the rest of it sort of follows suit," she said. "'Minimalism' and 'time travel' are two phrases that are getting bandied about."

Xmas Posting Dates for the Flotique

Florence's Blog

Far, far, far unfit to bear the bitter cold.
Let me, let me, let me freeze again to death.

It seems the darkness is encroaching, as the winter knuckles down with freezing fists, and although the day carries on, the night falls around us.. ..ie : its fucking cold and I cant get out of bed in the mornings, but anyway, HOWDY! HOW Y’ALL DOING! It's good to be back on land again, ..bonjour to anyone who saw me on my French sojourn, it was fantastique!, I had a magical day in Paris, tripping around the graves of motparsse, a village for the dead, broken stained glass and lilacs, walked along the seine, it seems to me the light is different in Paris, kind of rosy gold, when you come through the eurostar you realise how grey purple the light is here, but the greens are brighter.

I got lost in Montmartre, always lost.. but found a charity shop warehouse and the Moulin rouge... the gig at the cigalle was one of my favourite ever, I had been reading edith piafs biography, that I bought from Shakespeare and co, so I was hoping to channel her in some way…

it was a pleasure to be back at the union chapel for the little noise sessions, I think the chapel is my favourite venue in london, and performing with strings was a great way to end a hungover Sunday, I felt pretty unholy as I walked into the church but somehow absolved as I left…

what else what else what else, oh yeah, collaboration extravaganza at the tabernacle for the NME, it was radical, patrick wolf, jack penate, kid harpoon, steve mackey, and jarvis cocker all agreed to play, and DREAM COME TRUE, i got to sing underwear with jarvis on stage..woah, teenage fantasy realised..can die happy now..... did not manage to play it cool though, grinning like an idiot the whole way through..x

setting off on our last uk tour of the year tommorow, hope to see you there, im of to rehearse with the string section and the gospel choir for the brixton academy show...eeep, very exciting,
best wishes, lots of love florence...x
